Greetings, and thank you for your interest in Playsmiths.
Playsmiths is a group of theatre professionals meeting weekly to develop new plays. Playwrights bring in pages, actors are cast and cold read the material aloud. Constructive, respectful feedback is shared. Our goal is to present first a staged reading, and ultimately a full production of every full length script we develop.
Playwright members pay dues of $75 per quarter (12 meetings). If you're a playwright, we'd like to see a writing sample and a production resume. We will read your materials before inviting you to audit up to three meetings--to see our process and get the feel of the ensemble. Dues must be paid in advance of having any work read. Playsmiths is a sponsored 501(c)(3) non-profit, and proceeds are used to defray rental and production costs.
Actor members are not charged dues, and are paid a modest honorarium for public performances. If you're an actor, we'd like to see a headshot and a resume. We endeavor to have everyone in attendance work each meeting. It's a great way to brush up your cold reading skills, and to meet other actors, writers, and directors. Members of our acting ensemble are considered first for any public performances.
We meet on Sunday evenings in a Midtown Manhattan rehearsal space. More information about Playsmiths can be found at www.playsmiths.org.
Again, thank you for your interest and we look forward to hearing from you. Please reply to playsmiths@gmail.com.
