Is this Feminist?

90%+ of attendees at startup and tech events are male. Discuss.

Also, we’ll have talks by Claire Robertson (Founders Institute) because F.I. have events in January that entrepreneurial geeks should know about, and Vivienne Conway, who’s an invited expert on the W3C Evaluation Methodology group. She’s going to debrief on the Australian accessibility landscape.  A primer for the time-challenged developer.

Down South? pffft. We're driving around the empty streets and liberating people from sexist oppression.

See you on the 9th!

Amusing start to the year for Port80... Thanks to all the speakers and the hosts for a great event ;)

Found the talk on Accessibility by Vivienne Conway to be most informative. I was completely unaware that government websites had to meet specific WCAG conformance levels by certain dates, one of which has recently just passed. Thanks for bringing this to light.

Particularly look at Section 4.2 Transitioning to WCAG 2.0. Sorry for the long reply - thought you'd like to have the link. Here is the link for the National Transition Strategy (NTS) http://www.finance.go...

      Thanks for the clarification :)

Appreciate the effort you've gone to on providing those links.

I loved it. Founder Institute is the real deal for startups internationally; great to see it take off in Perth. Vivienne was hugely knowledgeable on accessibility, which is emerging as a big theme for the Association. And Elena Williams gave a powerhouse talk on gender in technology which led to a very nuanced discussion. BY THE WAY, those who want to enrol in EDGE OF THE WEB: here's the URL - http://eotw.com.au

HI Luke. I'm glad you enjoyed the accessibility discussion. I am hoping that when people understand the need more, they will get on board.

Loved the discussion at the end and could have listened another while at least. Sure other people would have had something to say, too. Including myself :)

It's the second time that I want to come but something comes up! I wish there was a recording system for port80 meetups for people who can't make it.
Anyway, hope you have a hot and controversial feminist discussion tonight!
