Bicycle Commuting Meetup: Come Fly With Me!

Come fly with me! Celebrate the end of "indoor cycling season" (for some) by taking a ride on a flying bicycle!

There is an unassuming little house in the suburbs of Gorham which hides inside a collection of vintage pinball and arcade games, among them, "Prop Cycle". In this 1996 game, the player operates a flying bicycle by sitting astride an exercise bike and pedaling to keep him/herself afloat while steering and leaning. The player's main objective is to burst balloons, thereby gaining points, by running into them. Here is a video of the game being played. It's great fun! love struck

So let's take a road trip to Gorham to give this bicycle-controlled game a try (his other games will be open too, all for free).

We will also take some time to discuss and plan the upcoming season, where I anticipate once more a great increase in bicycle commuting in Portland. I'll bring the food and drink. Please consider ways that YOU can help out with the Meetup group this year, and spread the word about bicycle transportation! Hope to see you there!

Date and Time: Sunday, March 28, 1 PM
Place: John R's house, 25 Hickory Lane, Gorham, ME

Please RSVP here!

Other News

Don't forget to keep posting your bike transportation activity. An article in yesterday's Portland Press Herald indicated that "the city does not have data to show how many people commute to work on bicycles", so this check-in database, although not scientific, is the closest thing we currently have to hard numbers. Let's try to make it as accurate as possible!

Mechanic seminars for the upcoming season will be held alternating by Percy Wheeler, Jim Tasse, and Katie Diamond, the latter specializing in meetings especially for women. Feel free to contact them with suggestions for topics, or to ask when the next one will be offered.

I will be contacting those who taught our Intro and Safety seminars last year about doing so again this year. If you did not but would like to this year, please reply to this message and let me know. We will be examining our curriculum and seeing what we can do to improve it. All suggestions welcome!
