The Bicycle Coalition of Maine is in need of people to help us do Valet Bicycle Parking at some upcoming events. Valet bike parking is a great way to promote bicycle transportation, and we are even willing to pay you (a little)!

If you haven't seen valet bike parking before, it works basically like valet car parking. We provide customers with a claim ticket and record their information, store their bike in an enclosed guarded area, and return it to them upon receipt of the claim ticket. As with valet car parking, it is provided as a free value-added service to the customer, and a lock is not required. It's easy to do, and we can train you in about 3 minutes!

Beach to Beacon 10K
Cape Elizabeth
Saturday Aug 3, 6 AM - 2 PM

This premier running race in Southern Maine accommodates 6000 runners, and for the first time this year, the race organizers are providing bicycle parking for athletes to ride to the race and avoid the car congestion! The bike parking is part of an effort to seek green certification for the event, and they have contracted with BCM to provide this service. We will need the most help between 6 and 8 AM, when everyone arrives, then less help as the day goes on and the runners gradually return. If you know people running in the race, why not organize a group ride to it, then you can help with the parking while they run! (To start at 6 AM, please arrive by 5:45 to receive your training so we can open at 6.)

We may also be assisting with other events in mid-August, including the Bug Light Buy Local Festival in South Portland on August 17, and possibly another in Brunswick the same day. We don't have all those details worked out yet, but if you think you may also be interested in one of those, let me know.

Please reply to this message if you can help, and thank you in advance!
