This may be a duplicate for those of you who attended our first meeting, but I wanted to let all of the members know that our first meeting was a big success. There was such positive energy and enthusiasm in the room that I know we are in the process of creating an active and vibrant community of collage artists. We got to see some great work brought by members and we talked about what we want to do in the future.
We decided to meet on the first Saturday of every month, though there is some talk about smaller groups getting together more often. We are going to choose a theme at each meeting, and then use the time between meetings to create artwork on that theme to bring to the next meeting. For our second meeting, we are going to create name tags or table tents (someone mentioned creating a hat) so that we can get to know each other's names easily.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 4th from 10 AM - Noon, though the room may be open earlier, and we may be able to stay a bit later. I hope more people will bring artwork, whether it is completed or not. I will be sending out a reminder as the time gets closer, and am going to try to post a photo of TaborSpace and a map so no one has a problem finding us.
We also agreed that a yearly membership of $25, which entitles you to come to all meetings and participate in any other activities we come up with, was appropriate to help keep us on Meetup and help pay for the use of the space. If this is a hardship for anyone, please feel free to get in touch with me at [address removed] and we can discuss it.
Please let other collagers know about the Guild. We would love to have them become part of the community.
Thank you to everyone who came to the first meeting, and for making it such fun. I look forward to seeing you again, and can't wait to meet anyone who was unable to attend.
From originator, Judith Devine "We would like to bring together collage artists of all levels to create a supportive community for mutual inspiration and learning. Collage is a medium so wide-ranging and diverse that is often not taken seriously in the arts community; a situation that we would really like to change."
The Portland Mixed-Media Collage Guild is a group of artists working in a variety collage and assembláge techniques. Our mission is to share and inspire creativity in the collage arts. Each month there are presentations and demonstrations by our member volunteers. We also bring our own projects to work on and share with the group. This is an opportunity to network, meet new people and innovate.
Please join us! We would love your input! RSVP's are greatly appreciated.
We meet the first Saturday of each month at TaborSpace.
