Souther Auditorium (East Pavilion)
Providence St. Vincent Medical Center
9205 SW Barnes Road, Portland, OR
I recommend arriving at 11:30, otherwise you may not get a seat in the auditorium. I guarantee it will take you longer than you think to find parking, find the right entrance, find the auditorium, find me...in other words, I really really REALLY recommend arriving no later than 11:30. Really. Did I say "really"? I mean, really. (Philip Mandel, Organizer)
Alter Wiener's father was brutally murdered on September 11, 1939 by the German invaders of Poland. Alter was then a boy of 13. At the age of 15 he was deported to Blechhammer, a Forced Labor Camp for Jews, in Germany. He survived five camps. Upon liberation by the Russian Army on May 9, 1945, Alter weighed 80 lbs as reflected on the book's cover. Alter Wiener is one of the very few Holocaust survivors still living in the Portland area. He moved to Oregon in 2000, and since then he has shared his life story with over 800 audiences in universities, colleges, middle and high schools, Churches, Synagogues, prisons, clubs, etc. He has also been interviewed by radio and TV stations as well as the press.

The recent letter below is one of thousands Alter has received.
Braden O., a student from West Linn, Oregon writes:
”Dear Mr. Wiener, your story is going to change my life forever. I am now thankful for having a school I can attend, a family I can talk to and free country where not one religion or race is discriminated against. I want to read your book; you gave me a lot of wisdom for just one hour of speaking. I will remember everything you taught me. I am extremely grateful that I got to meet you. You changed my life; I am now a different person."
