Portland MST3K Meetup Group Update

From: Mr S.
Sent on: Sunday, January 24, 2010 2:20 PM
Hi everybody! Mr Shemp here, the organizer of the Portland MST3K Meetup Group. Just wanted to drop everybody a quick line on the latest news, and here it is:

The bulb is burnt out.

That's right: the bulb in the projector that we were using to watch our 2 Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episodes a month gave up the ghost in October, and a new one is at least $300... and that's from a shady kind of organization online that might operate out of an ex-Soviet republic that may or may not exist.

The projector actually belongs to my wise and kind employer, and he has said that he doesn't have it in his budget to replace it, but if I'd like to buy a new one, that would be fine with him.

Well.... I don't have the bread right now, kids.

So the projector has gone dark temporarily, but that doesn't mean that I've given up: I've e-mailed a number of theaters in the Portland area asking about the possibilities of using their facilities once a month for a group of well-mannered and nicely-behaved fanatics, and the replies have mostly been "Nuh-uh" and "Sure, but it'll cost you".

And although I don't think most of us would mind paying a couple of bucks to get together in a nice screening room to watch some MST goodness, our attendance has been so historically sporadic, if only 10 of us showed up, it would be quite expensive per head.

So that's where it stands, MSTies. If you have any ideas, or if you have access to a video projector, or know somebody with access to a screening room... please reply back and let me know. Or feel free to post a message on the Message Board.

As soon as we've got something worked out, you'll all be the first to know.

Until then, Hi-keeba, Huzzah, and Keep Circulating The Tapes!
-Mr Shemp
