Thursday is Permaculture night at the Village Building Convergence

Tonight is our permaculture night at the 12th Annual Village Building Convergence. Jenny Pell will share her most recent work with Community By Design, and will moderate a panel of permaculture designers and educators whose work together represents a comprehensive reach of scale, scope and experience. Our panel will include Jude Hobbs, Andrew Millison, Marisha Auerbach, Brad Lancaster, Mighk Simpson and Leonard Barrett.

Following the panel, there will be two short workshop sessions.

Session 1 (8:20-9:00) will include Permaculture Parenting with Kelly Hogan and April Blair of Mother Earth School, Principles of Water Harvesting with Brad Lancaster, a plant walk with Dave Boehnlein of the Bullock Homestead and TerraPhoenix Design, and a 'Permaculture Salon' conversation with Jude Hobbs & friends.

Session 2 (9:00-9:40) will include Permaculture for Renters with Leonard Barrett of Barrett Ecological, Social Permaculture with Jenny Leis of TLC Farm and Permaculture Design exercises with Jordan Fink.

Friday we'll be welcoming the Community Built Association's conference into our evening events. Sharon Danks, author of Asphalt to Ecosystems: Design Ideas for Schoolyard Transformation will join us, along with Oliver Kellhammer, urban permaculture expert from Vancouver, BC. Jon Young, renowned tracker, mentor and author, will end the evening presentations with Nature Connection and Cultural Repair. Celebrating their CD release, the Max Ribner Band will top a night that you won't forget!

Saturday marks the last night of VBC12, and who else but Mark Lakeman, Marc Tobin & friends to deliver on Interactive Holistic Village Design. Mark, co-founder of City Repair, and Marc, former ED of Lost Valley Education Center, will be joined by Brenna Bell, Mark Nedleman and Leonard Barrett, among others, for an evening of interactively exploration and storytelling.

Upcoming workshops include:
Today: Templates for Regeneration with Karen Hery from the Swap Shop, Musician and Nia instructor Saffire Boucelion and more...
Friday: Open Source City with Oliver Kellhammer
Saturday: Neighborhood Play Every Day with Mike Lanza of Playborhoods (celebrating his book release!)
Sunday Jon Young will lead a day-long workshop on Bird Language at an urban farm in SE Portland.

And, of course, there are 40-something sites all across Portland working on their community projects, eager to share skills and also to receive a helping hand. Our site guidebook lists what's still coming up, including the painting of Share-it Square on Saturday and so much more. It's not too late to get your hands in the paint, mud or whatever else needs slingin'.

We hope to see you somewhere in the mix!
