This is a real classic with something for everyone. Old growth forest along a burbling creek. A tucked away waterfall. A very pretty little lake, totally unscarred by fire. And last but not least, a final push up to an inspiring viewpoint encompassing four volcanic peaks and (unless haze prevents it) downtown Portland.

We will meet at 8:15 for an 8:30 departure from the Gateway park and ride, southeast corner. Please bring plenty of water (at least two liters), enough food (you know best), appropriate footwear, multiple layers of clothing, sunscreen and a hat, 10 essentials, etc. If you have any questions about what to bring or about this hike, contact Matthew Diamond by email or at[masked], cell[masked]-7908.

Another group was going to do it and there was still too much snow? Is it ok now since thiswas only a little over a week ago?

I find it difficult to believe there is any snow left, given that the trail is usually clear by June and this year featured an early melt-off everywhere else. The forest service reports that they did maintenance all the way up to the lake (4100 feet) last month. I've got to believe that we'll be o.k.

I heard it's beautiful! My first hike with this group, but regularly do hikes of this length and elevation gain.
