Thu 15 Third Thursday, Potluck at 6:30 PM, Program at 7 pm

Erin “Wired” Saver thru hiked the Pacific Crest Trail last year; the highest snow year on record. She is a solo hiker, who made it through with “No Flips, No Skips.” Not easily done last year with high snow, raging waters, and many forest fires. She will discuss what it was like to experience her first thru hike during such an epic season and share stories, photos, and videos from her five months on the trail. Erin’s PCT daily blog is one of the most followed in recent years (

For anyone thinking about thru hiking the PCT(or any other long distance trail), she will be answering questions and giving suggestions as to how to prepare and what to expect. If you’re interested in learning about some epic hiking in our area and more (including the John Muir Trail), this is the presentation for you. The PCT isn’t just for thru hikers. There are plenty of local weekend excursions along the trail that Erin will also present. She looks forward to sharing the trail and spreading the word about one of the most amazing trails in the world.

2.)  Outings:

December  2012

Saturday, December 1st, 8:00 am departure

Come observe the end and beginning of the Coho life cycle at Lousignont Creek in Washington County. These rare salmon swim for miles upriver to the very spot where they hatched in order to lay eggs and die–a powerful expression of sacrifice. The winter setting should make for a beautiful experience. The North Coast State Forest Coalition will provide snacks and arrange a carpool and anyone from anywhere is welcome to join us!

Email Chris Smith, Washington County/Portland Metro Area Organizer to sign up.

General Outings Information: All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver.

If you would like to read the liability waiver before you choose to participate on an outing, contact the Outings department at (415)[masked] for a printed version.

You don’t have to be a member to participate!

Arrive with adequate food, water and clothing. If in doubt about your ability to complete a hike, please consult with the leader before the trip.

Field guides, snacks to share and humor are welcome.

Please leave your pet at home unless otherwise specified or with prior approval from the leader. Entertainment devices are discouraged. Firearms are prohibited.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Most day trips require no advance reservations unless “reservations required” or “group size limited” is indicated.

Participants are encouraged to contribute a small donation for the outing. These optional donations help the Group Outings Program to offer professional leaders’ training courses, carbon offset contributions, and other outings activities to strengthen and diversify Columbia Group outings.

Carpooling is encouraged. Riders traditionally share expenses with drivers depending on vehicle and number of riders.

See to find out how to get to the carpool location via mass transit.
