Bordeaux Bliss - Indulge in the Consummate Classic - BYOB or Just Come & Taste

Details

Come imbibe in the wine world's quintessential quaff.

Taste in the pleasant chill of the underground tasting room at Portland Wine Storage. Come and cool down!

For 2,000 years they have been making some of the world's greatest wine at the place where the confluence of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers become the Gironde. Bordeaux wines are mostly blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot.

The best recent vintages are 2010, 2009, 2005 and 2003. The reason you want know the vintages is because, in great vintages the quality of the all the wines is greatly improved, therefore, even the cheaper bottles can sometimes provide great pleasure.

Where the wine comes from will usually determine the blend. Right bank wines are usually Merlot based blends and Left Bank wines are usually Cabernet Sauvignon based blends.

Right Bank (Merlot based) - Pomerol, Saint Emilion and Fronsac

Left Bank (Cab Sauv based)- Medoc, Saint Estephe, Paulliac, Pessac Leognan, the Graves.

$5 if you bring a bottle $10 to just taste. We will put the fees in a pot and the winner (whoever brings the best rated bottle will take home the pot (Minus food expense). Blind Tasting.

Meat and Cheese plates provided.

Great Value event, the last 4 times, everyone got their fill, and the winner took home money for bringing the best wine.

Once again, whoever brings the best wine (Blind rated), will take home the pot. If we get 10 people to show, the after expense pot should be at least $50.

We will taste blind and rate using the Robert Parker 100 point system.

Think you know Bordeaux? Bring a bottle and let's find out. If you bring the best bottle, you will go home with the winnings. Last time the winner took home $80.

Starts at 7PM, but feel free to show up early, I always have a bottle or 2 open.

I will bring 3 bottles, a 2003, a 2005 and either a 2001 or a 2009.

Cheers!
