Modernising Money - Reading Group, London, Mon 20 May

The impact of recession is affecting us all: increasing amounts of debt, jobs lost, homes repossessed and businesses fail. The hardest thing to contemplate, is a way out from all of this mess...

The purpose of this group is to study new book "Modernising Money, Why our monetary system is broken and how it can be fixed"

This book documents - in more detail than ever before - exactly how we could fix the monetary system for the benefit of business, society, and the environment. These proposals offer one of the few hopes of escaping from our current dysfunctional monetary system. In case you didn't get a copy yet, the book can be ordered here.

When: Monday 20 May at 7.30pm

Where: The venue is Cafe Provencale, 2-6 Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill, London, SE24 9HU (which is just round the corner from the station and bus stops).

We'll be in the back room. It's a commercial establishment with food if you want to eat, but they are happy with us not taking food as long as several of us order a drink of some variety.

Program:

We will be going through Chapter 5 and on into Chapter 6. As last time we will each be summarising a part of the chapter (even if only 1 page) for the rest of the group. Don't worry if that sounds daunting -- it's not a test but rather just trying to help each other remember what we have read in the preceding couple of weeks, and to each have a go at explaining (to a friendly, familiar, and encouraging audience) what we've read.

New people are always welcome, though will have some catching up to do on the reading.

The book is now available directly from Positive Money in case you lack a copy.

From Croydon 468 bus takes 47 mins to Herne Hill.

From Sutton there's a direct train to Herne Hill takes 23 mins.

From North London, the First Capital Connect service and trains from Victoria run directly to Herne Hill.

Welcome to three new members of the group and a warm welcome to three group members who have been away but were able to return and get stuck into the discussion on Monday night. In Richard's absence bitcoins took a backseat tonight. Looking forward to getting down to business in four weeks time - when we move on to proposals for reform of the money/banking system.

Apologies! I didn't think I would be missed. I'm conscious of the fact that talking about bitcoin might be distracting you from the task at hand, though I'm very happy to come back to the group to talk more about bitcoin, it's technology and implications.
