You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
About Our MeetUp
At this MeetUp we get together to learn about and talk about peak oil. We're interested in its consequences and the steps we can take now to prepare for it.
And we have fun too! We think that our social get-together after the MeetUp is at least as valuable as the formal gathering. Why not come out and find out?
Wait - What the Heck Is Peak Oil?
If you browsed to this page without looking specifically for peak oil, then you are probably asking yourself what this MeetUp is actually about.
One good explanation is the Peak Oil Primer at The Energy Bulletin. It starts out "Peak Oil is the simplest label for the problem of energy resource depletion, or more specifically, the peak in global oil production," and proceeds to explain "What does Peak Oil mean for our societies?"
That's the focus of this MeetUp.
Electronic Discussion
Can't make it to MeetUps, but want to talk about peak oil?
Our electronic interaction takes place on the Toronto Peak Oil mailing list. It offers discussion and notices of events related to energy descent primarily in the Toronto area.
Most people find it more convenient to read messages in email rather than having to return to the MeetUp's web-based message board, so your messages will find a wider audience there.
Anyone interested can join regardless of their views, provided they express their views respectfully.
The Canada Energy mailing list discusses all aspects of Canadian energy issues.
Get Active
Want to move beyond discussion?
Get active with Post Carbon Toronto, the MeetUp's organizers. It is a small citizen's group that seeks to raise awareness and begin transition to lower energy sustainable modes of living. It offers assistance to individuals and groups doing screenings of End of Suburbia. Members attend the Meetup and participate in the Toronto Peak Oil mailing list.
Post Carbon Toronto is an outpost of the Post Carbon Institute. PCI is a think tank and community action group committed to relocalization in response to peak oil. PCI has headquarters in Vancouver, but encourages local 'outposts', one of which is Post Carbon Toronto. Outposts are financially and otherwise independent from PCI but share some resources with PCI, including information, and in some cases collaborate on projects.
If you would like to become more involved in PCT, contact Rose Kudlac at a MeetUp or via her member profile.
