St. Charles to Batavia Hike

Details

Walking, a Japanese Garden, the Fox River and ice cream, too.

Join us for a 9 mile hike along the Fox River from St. Charles to Batavia and back. On Saturday March 29, we will meet at 12:30 PM at the Starbuck's at 101 East Main, in .St. Charles and will head for the nearby Fox River Trail. The walk takes us along the river past an old fashion windmill, across a foot bridge into the Japanese Gardens in the town of Geneva. If weather conditions are right, we may see a hillside of brilliant, blue scilla, an early spring flower. After a look around the Japanese Garden we shall proceed along the river to the town of Batavia where we can stop for ice cream or tour the Mary Todd Lincoln Museum. We shall cross a bridge and make our way back to St. Charles.

The walk takes us through gardens, forest and, though some parts are residential, the tranquil Fox River is always in view. The walk is a combination of pavement and dirt path so hiking boots or waterproof walking shoes are best in the event of mud on the trail.

Please bring plenty of water and sunscreen if necessary There are parking lots within 2 blocks of the Starbucks and on street parking.

Directions: From Chicago, take I-290 west to North Avenue (IL-64) which becomes Main Street in St. Charles.
