Self-defense Training (Unarmed)

I visited a great place for us to conduct our training. As of now, they have Sundays open so I reserved 2 for us.

  • Are you still planning on attending / are you bringing anyone?
  • Does anyone have any body shields. If so, how many? We need 4 or 5. If we don't have them, I'll get some and the total cost will just shy of $200. You don't have to pay, but if you'd like to contribute the cause it would be appreciated!
  • Finally, everyone has something specific they'd like to learn how to defend against: being pinned on the ground, getting out of a choke, escaping from a bear hug, etc. Please let me know what yours is so I can incorporate it into the curriculum.
  • Judging from the space size, I'd like to limit the group to no more than 25.  I believe Ken has to do this as the organizer.

As always let me know if you have any questions. Oh, the place is in S/E (Division and 12th).

Thanks,
Matt

PS: I'll post the dates tomorrow once I know my business-travel schedule.

Maybe next time we can have people pay before they sign up.

I'm sorry, I won't be able to make it. I can't do Sundays with Church and all.

We would love to come. I am not sure of the number. I have a neighbor who may come with me. We each have daughters that would like to come but they are 12 and you said no kids. They are both homeschooled so there wouldn't be a "school fight" problem.

Susy: I'm sorry, I thought I emailed you on this and just noticed I didn't. Let's do this: how about having the adults attend the first class. Once you become familiar with what we'll be learning, it'll be your call.

Does anyone have something (you cannot "nominate" your spouse") that we can use to practice kicks and knee strikes?

A boxer's heavy bag, a body shield, and old duffle bag stuffed with rags, etc?

If not, I may just have to fall on the $ grenade and go get some. I can't find mine anywhere; several boxes were somehow lost when I moved here, so I've been buying new martial arts stuff.

    Please let me know!

    All,

I revisited the space: it's great! About the perfect size, very nice floors that have a good element of "spring" or "bounce" to them, one entire wall is mirrors, and even Audio / Visual.

What to wear: something that is comfortable and doesn't restrict movement too much. However, if any of us are ever "attacked" it's not likely I'll be wearing my Judo gi, but jeans.

The point is to wear something that you're okay working out in and has similar attributes to what you'd wear out and about.

    See you Sunday at 10!
    ] Thanks,
    Matt

Would we need mats? Sundays are hard due to church, what kind of space would you need for private lessons if need be and able? I have about 10-14 people interested. Thanks Matt, you ROCK!

I finally found a place that claims they can hold at least 20. I'm meeting with them tomorrow or Thursday and, if it looks good, I'll get a date booked.

Sorry for the delay. Finding space has been a much bigger challenge than I anticipated.

    I'll keep you posted!

    Regards,
    Matt

Hey Tina, thanks for the interest! Are the others part of the group? If not, we may need to consider private lessons.
