Come Join PACNY For A Summer Afternoon In Auburn!

PACNY has arranged for a special tour of the Seward House Historic Museum in Auburn on Sunday, June 29. We will take a specially-guided tour of the house beginning at 2 pm, followed at 3 by a private reception on the south porch of the house. The cost is $10 for PACNY members, and $12 for non-members.

The Seward House is one of Central NY’s most intact historic houses, with original furniture and collections that have remained intact from the early 19th century until today. The house was built by Elijah Miller in 1817, whose daughter married William Henry Seward in 1824. Seward, who served as the Governor of New York, as a U.S. Senator, and as President Lincoln’s Secretary of State, moved into the house in 1824 after his marriage. He and his descendants lived in the house continuously from then until 1951, when it became a house museum, with four generations of family furniture, collections, and memorabilia remaining intact.

Come join with PACNY as we explore this incredible look into the history of Auburn and the Central New York region, and into the lives of this prominent family. Please RSVP by email at [masked] by Thursday, June 26.

While in Auburn, we encourage you to explore more of the riches of museums and historic houses, including the Harriet Tubman House, the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center, and the Cayuga Museum of History and Art.

Last update - With thanks to Kim for the images, Mary Duffin of PACNY has put together a brief update of the event, now hosted on the pacny.net website at:

Greetings all - I am sorry I missed it! The feedback on-and-off meetup was excellent and the event helped us streamline some social media details for future PACNY events.

Quick request - if anyone took pictures during the event (where allowed to, of course!), could you have them (or you) send one or two of their favorites along to [masked]? We want to put a small event post together for our website (pacny.net). If you/they want to post them to this event page, that works for us as well (and we'll reprint with proper attribution on the website, so please have the name available). Many thanks!

Awaiting word from the Events Committee about future 2014 events and will post accordingly.

Greetings all - Timing being what it is, I might not make it to Auburn in time on Sunday. Worse still, I may be without cell signal (way in the middle of nowhere, PA) until that morning. Accordingly, if there are any last-minute issues (starting at 5 p.m. today (Friday)), please drop a line to fellow PACNY-er Claire Enkosky ((207)[masked] or claire.enkosky@gmail)). Minus my being a bad host, this first new meetup event for 2014 has been a great success for showing PACNY a great way to promote events. Many thanks (esp. Kim for all the busy work on the 'Boomers side!)!

It was even better than I expected it would be. The young docent was very knowledgable and personable. All the staff members were very polite and professional. Was honored to be in the very basement of a stop on the Underground Railway!

Damian: I have 17 others plus myself signed up on the baby boomers. I just limited it to 18 so that will be the max to attend. We will probably have a few drop out by the 29th
