Update

A few hours ago, I sent out an update from Princeton and also it is posted in the discussion board. The key info for the talk is:

---

Registration for the Turing Centennial is now closed!

McCosh 50 has a capacity of 450. Tickets for Eric Schmidt's talk in McCosh 50 will be available to registrants at the Turing Centennial registration (outside McCosh 50) starting at 9 am on Thursday, May 10 on a first come, first served basis. The talks will be simulcast throughout other rooms in McCosh Hall, many of which are very comfortable places to sit and watch. The event will also be simulcast at http://www.princeton.edu/webmedia .

---

Therefore, if you haven't already registered at http://www.princeton.edu/turing/registration you won't be able to see the speech in the room he's speaking at.

You may be able to see the simulcast in another room, but I'm not sure if they let you in if you haven't registered.

It is recommended to get the tickets as early as you can on Thursday, so get them before you come to Panera. I am planning to go in the morning, watch some speeches during the day, and do some work from Small World Coffee when I'm not at speeches. When I get my tickets, I'll find out details about seeing the speech if you are not registered or if you don't get one of the 450 tickets and I'll post an update here.

---

This is an excellent opportunity to see Eric Schmidt speak here on Princeton's campus. You can optionally meet with group members for dinner before and drinks after the event. Hope to see you there!

If you are interested, you must first register for the celebration at http://www.princeton.edu/turing/registration/

You can also view other agenda items at that site to find out more about other speakers you might want to attend throughout the celebration which runs from May 10-12.

There might be an additional step to register to see Eric talk, but I haven't gotten any information about that yet.

Here is the plan for those of you who would like to attend:

  • 6:00: Meet at Panera Bread for dinner.
  • 7:00: Head to speaker location to get in line/seated (location currently unannounced)
  • 8:00: Speech is scheduled to begin
  • 9:00 or whenever speech ends: Head to a local bar for drinks and to discuss the presentation.
  • We'll determine the bar location depending upon how many people are going.

  • On the way to the bar we will stop at the Firestone Library to view a free exhibition: "Alan Turing's Thesis" - Turing's Princeton dissertation and graduate file is on display.

If you are interested in getting an interesting overview and stories about Alan Turing, I'd recommend listening to this podcast:

Let me know if there are any questions!
