Yoga is a transformative practice that brings clarity and focus, balance and strength. Its dedicated practitioners will often describe yoga as “life-changing” and note that the physical practices support the inner journey needed to make real and lasting changes. Those newer to yoga as well as more experienced students will enjoy the full breadth of what Hatha yoga has to offer by taking this class. You will be safely guided through the practice of asanas (postures) with a focus on foundation, alignment, safety, core strength, and stress release. Discover and restore strength and flexibility, develop an understanding of alignment, explore pranayama (breath practices) and create balance.
Sonja Kirwan has always had an interest in promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle. She has practiced manual orthopaedic physical therapy for well over a decade. She discovered yoga a decade ago, but really became dedicated in 2008 once she discovered the challenges and joy of practicing a range of poses and deepening her practice into arm balances and inversions. Her passion for yoga lead her to pursue her 200 hour teacher certification with YogaWorks at Yoga Source in Richmond. Her training focused on precise alignment and the art and science of sequencing. This in combination with her extensive knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics allows her to understand the practice of yoga for both the healthy and injured body.
