Welcome to our monthly accent reduction meeting! This event is a great way to learn how to communicate more effectively and efficiently speaking American English while sharing food and drink and meeting friends from throughout the world. This is one of many seminars I will be offering through the group in which we will review the correct pronunciation of all the sounds (and sound rules) and intonation (melody) of American English.
Please bring an appetizer and/or drink to share. As we eat we'll converse, get to know one another, and maybe make some new international friends.
After this I'll teach for approximately 1.5 hours on how to speak with an American accent.
The topic this month is "Vowels: Putting it All Together". In this seminar we'll conclude our review of the vowel sounds of American English by reviewing all the vowels sounds - sounds which we have covered in past meetup events but never reviewed as a whole. We'll approach the vowel sounds by where they are made in the mouth, moving from the front to the middle to the back of the mouth. As we practice each sound I'll discuss with you what you need to do to make the correctly - how open your mouth should be, what you need to be doing with your lips, and how you will need to vibrate your vocal cords with each vowel. We'll also talk about how these sounds can be represented in spelling and we'll practice these sounds in words and some sentences.
**Since interest in our events is very strong please do not RSVP unless you can attend**
**This event is for persons who speak English as a Second Language only**
Thanks and see you then!
