Hey Everyone - Ready For A Really Big Hootenanny?
We're lined up for a great evening of enjoying excellent weather, really yummy wine, potluck chow, awesome music, and dancing at Matthews. All in one spot we'll be celebrating the end of the week, closing out August, and launching the Labor Day Weekend!
We're making this one a Potluck! Since this is all happening on a Friday, and almost all of us have to work that day - this one should be a Store-Bought Food Potluck. Grocery store chicken, Pizzas, deli hot dishes, cut-up sandwiches, cookies, chips, watermelons, veggie platters, cakes, pies and anything else you can buy ready to eat are all fair game. We have all four of the outside picnic tables with the red umbrellas reserved for our group. Everything we need for an outstanding time!
Retro-Drive, one of the NW top cover bands will be performing again for this event! They've made new additions to the band including a keyboardist and new lead and rhythm guitarists. If you've joined us for a past event, you won't want to miss this one. The band starts at 6:30 and goes until 10:00.
And, so that we are also doing something good for the community, we can do some voluntary charity fund raising for the USO too. Some folks have commented about my habit of wearing a red shirt at these events. That's the USO tie-in. Red Shirt Fridays <http://redshirtfridays.org/> is an unofficial movement dedicated towards conspicuously but silently showing support for our service members that are deployed overseas, and the USO. The only effort needed to show support and solidarity is intentionally wearing a red shirt on a Friday. We'll have some jars set out for voluntary contributions that will go to the USO's efforts to assist troops as they pass through airports while traveling home on leave. Sometimes it's just the use of a phone, for others it’s a sandwich and a cot for an extended or unplanned lay-over.
There is no cover charge for this event. It can get busy though, so getting there on time or even a bit early is recommended! The dance floor is always hopping when these guys perform.
Please include a comment in your RSVP letting us know what kind of food item you are thinking about bringing. I'll make sure that we have paper plates, napkins, and plastic utensils. I'd also appreciate some volunteer help with things like hand painting a banner sign and picking up around the outside area after the event. If you have ideas to share on how we can make this even more of a kick-ass event, you're welcome to email me directly ([masked]) or ring me on my cell @ 206.755.8255.
Please be aware that state liquor law requires that wine produced by Matthews is the only alcoholic beverages that may be consumed at this event.
This Meetup event is cross-posted.
