Git/GitHub micro workshop

This is just intended to be a quick hands-on introduction. I'd like to keep the group small and informal, so that we could conceivably just sit around a table at my apartment, a local coffee shop, or something like that.

:) I came across this yesterday - since we did use vim a little bit during the class, I thought you all might get a kick out of this game:

Good news - at least I hope this is good news. I found a new place. It's a very comfortable meeting room (and super cheap, because I'm a member). Hopefully this doesn't weird anyone out, but I booked the library at my church, St. David's Episcopal, downtown at 8th and San Jacinto. It's a great space, quiet and perfect for a small meetup like this. The even better news is that they have parking: they have their own parking garage, and it's free for us because we'll be there for an event.

Bad news - I just called Genuine Joe to reserve the meeting room, and both of their rooms are booked that night from 7-9. We could possibly move this to either Tuesday or that Friday - do either of those days work for everyone?

Friday is better for me. (If you haven't noticed, weeknights are hectic!)

Hi Barbara, Since I am already committed to something else on this date would it be possible to get a list of the exercises to work on offline so I can ask questions if I have any asynchronously?

Hi Simi! We'd love to see you again, but absolutely, once I have the workshop materials done, I'll send them to you (or possibly post them here). I may need a reminder, so nudge me if you don't get them in the next week or so. :)

Just a couple of things you'll need for this overview:

    - a laptop
    - a free GitHub account (if you don't already have one, go ahead and sign up here:

Once you're logged in on GitHub, go to this repository:

Click on the "Fork" button in the upper righthand corner of the page - what that will do is bring a copy of the repository over to your account. We'll go over what to do with it during this workshop.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
