Doing Data Science with Python

PythonCharlottesville will be doing a joint meetup with the local Data Science group. SNL Financial has graciously offered to host us. It will be on Thursday, December 3rd at SNL (212 7th St NE, Charlottesville, VA 22902 - large conference room), 6:30-8:00pm. It will be a good opportunity to mix up the crowd with another great C'ville meetup, many of whose members are actually Pythonistas in disguise.

Our speaker will be Patrick Harrison. He will give an overview of the "PyData" ecosystem, with a focus on NumPy & SciPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PySpark, bokeh, using the Jupyter Notebook, and more. We will also have an impromptu panel on what Python engineers and data scientists can learn from one another.

Speak information:

Patrick serves as a Data Scientist at SNL, a financial and business intelligence firm headquartered in Charlottesville, VA, and started SNL’s Data Science Team. His current research interests lie in applications of data science to problems such as document classification, product recommendations, search, and more. Prior to joining SNL, Patrick received a B.A. in Economics and an M.S. in Systems Engineering, both from UVA.
