Quantified Self Social at the Frick's + Peter Zandan interview

This is a relatively rare party at our house, dangle your feet in the pool and drink a cool one. We have world renowned data expert, Peter Zandan giving an interview promptly at 7.30p. He's gravitated to Quantified-Self circles because he thinks this is a movement that is changing how people see themselves. He does big-data research for a living, and has some curious and surprising insights for us.

It's the middle of summer and the perfect time to come socialize, talk about your latest gadget, share a story of recent self-tracking -- have a beer and some bites. We'll do the mid-summer meeting at our house and treat ourselves to a featured interview with Peter Zandan, Big-Data guru, investor and advisor to the Quantified-Self community. This will be very fun.

7.30 Peter Zandan interview.

Please RSVP if you're coming, cause we'll have a little food and drinks and need a headcount.

And get ready for the September meeting, we're on the lookout for 8 minute talks on personal tracking stories, we're looking for a few folks to do a show & for the next meeting. If you think you have half a talk, and are hesitant, lets chat... it's great for everyone to hear what you've learned, even if you're in the middle and don't have really conclusive data yet. Super helpful to share, we appreciate your help with the QS community.

DANG IT! I just got an email from Meetup telling me that their emails to me were bouncing from my austin.rr.com account. I would not have wanted to miss this.

I thought of this group yesterday. Author Ted Chiang was in Austin, and talked about (and then led a discussion of) video logging and memory. Here's a summary of him giving some version of this talk elsewhere recently. http://www.clarkscarlet.com/ted-chiang-gives-lecture-on-lifelogging/

Yeah, super interesting. I've met and chatted with Gordon Bell (the first life-logger, and creator of the VAX) at the big QS meetings in the Bay Area, this is a rich topic. Do we know anyone in Austin who might be able to talk about this at the September meeting?

Great fun, superb conversation, and thanks to Peter Zandan for bringing insight and deep expertise to the meeting (which btw, felt a lot like a nice summer party). Looking for 1 more speaker - 8 mins on something you've measured about yourself for the Sept meeting. Thanks for coming!

If you have any specific questions or ideas -- make a note here, and we'll ask Peter.
