Quantified Self San Diego November Meetup

San Diego Quantified Selfers!

Are you interested in sleep? Want to know more about what goes on when your head hits the pillow? Then make sure to come to our November QS-SD Meetup! John Amschler will be talking about using the ZEO sleep monitor. He also has graciously offered to loan out a handful of ZEO devices for 60-days so that you can run your own 60-day self experiment. We will be discussing the results of those experiments at a future meet up.

We have some other great Show & Tell talks planned as well so come ready to learn and participate.

6:30 - 7:00 PM: Meet and great/mingle

7:00 - 8:00 PM: Show & Tell talks

8:00 - 8:30 PM: Networking

If you have been doing some self-experimenting or have been using a cool quantified self tool and want to present (~10min) let us know. Just remember to try and stick to the three prime questions:

What are you doing?

Why are you doing it?

What did you learn?

From the 5: Exit Genesee and head west. Genessee will merge with N Torrey Pine Rd. Take the first left onto Scripps Clinic South Driveway. Park in the second parking lot on your right. Do not park in the first lot.  Meet at the entrance to the Beckman Building.

Great meeting. I picked up a lot of information about what is currently happening world wide with inspiration from the Quantified Self.

We can throw together a placeholder proposal for the festival, which can be changed, just enough to get our name on the program. Kids love activity, of course, and the booth can be somewhat of a zoo, so we need to think of something that is safe and healthy, and is suitable for "drive-by-science" - something quick and engaging. Happy to brainstorm some ideas at the meetup... perhaps measuring a kid's skin temp with an IR thermometer before and after doing jumping jacks?

I love this idea Tom and would like to help as well! I can see opportunity to create very interactive experiences. Perhaps some fun mini self-tracking experiments for attendees with demos of tools. We could share aggregate data later.

The San Diego Science Festival is hosting their annual Expo at Petco Park Mar 24, 2012, deadline to request a booth is Nov 1. I'm a HUGE supporter of the festival. It is a great way to do something for our next generation. I'm already hosting a booth, but I would suggest that the QS meetup group could host one, too. I'd be happy to help with the design... need to reserve a booth by Nov 1, though.
