What we’re about

"BUILD IT, AND THEY WILL COME"

Established June 2007
One of the "Grand Daddies" of NYC's Softball Meetups.

Welcome to the NYC's Co-Ed Oakland Gardens Softball Meetup Group.
We are nearly 1000 members STRONG and growing. Thanks for your participation and making this a really GREAT interactive social group!
I want to re-introduce myself & welcome new & existing members to our Softball Meetup Group based near Oakland Gardens adjacent to Bayside/Fresh Meadows, Queens.
We are a diverse, co-ed group of like minded softball die-hards, players, novices, fans and fanatics. We welcome all of you to join us and have a good time at our events.
I want to take this opportunity to THANK our Founder "DON" from the BRONX known warmly by our group as "DONNIE BASEBALL" for all that he's done since he started this meetup group in June 2007. Don showed his generosity during the 1st 3 summers & I commend him for all that he gave to the group. Good luck Don in whatever you do next and we hope to see you occasionally in OG's.
Additionally, I want to recognize CARLOS-V for his loyalty, dedication and hard work each and every Sunday since July 2007 preparing for games and clearing up all the equipment at the conclusion of the day. Carlos is our field general extraordinaire and should be commended and respected for all of the selfless efforts he makes for this meetup group.
During that summer of 2007, my first experience was meeting DonY, BillyM, MikeA & CarlosV in July, all of whom I say with pleasure are still somewhat active in this group. It was softball and free pizza @ PS 46 off Springfield Blvd.
Jack "The Glove" - stepped up the following year (2008) and created weekday meetups for "PRACTICE" that many of our members enjoyed attending and have gotten better as a result. Honorable Mention goes to JohnM and JamesY who all assisted the GLOVE in his week night meetups.
Emily - "Everyone loves Emmy" in 2008 became our group's true blue : cheerleader, fan, player & glue! Please find us on FaceBook. Emily created the FB site and please be sure you join. Here is the link:

In 2010 - Jack O'Halloran, a member since 2009 known to the group as "Capt'n Jack" (the most youthful 75 y.o.+ we know) stepped up as our voluntary on-field registrar for check-ins and member "pay before play" donations. Thank you Captain for your tireless efforts and love of people and sports.
In 2016 - Steve "SPIDER" Wilson stepped up as a long time member and literally measured the playing field each and every Sunday prior to our 1st game setting up the bases and foul line cones. Steve is an ASSISTANT ORGANIZER backing up Rob & Carlos. Thanks Spider!

In addition to our softball meets, we have hosted bowling & pool (non swimming) parties during the off season as our group has become tighter and friendships have blossomed throughout the year.
I want to reiterate - that this meetup group is strictly for fun. As competitive as I am personally, I think the core group knows that it's all about having a good time when you attend our events.
OGS has a ZERO TOLERANCE for "on field" bad behavior. There should be absolutely no place for disruptive actions, arguments & fights as the organizers and assistants will not tolerate them. Let's all act maturely and I guarantee we'll get along. If you're not happy about something, please feel free to write to me privately.
There will be a "Sunday Only" member donation of $2/$3 per playing member/guest(s) that should go to ROB or one of the others in the Leadership Team and then to Spider, CarlosV/Rob. Please note this will be used for miscellaneous meetup membership fees, permits, equipment as needed and social events we host during the Summer & Fall i.e. BBQ's Pizza, Birthday Cake, Wine & Cheese Parties etc.
We meet generally in one of the following 3 fields:

  1. Peck Field - located mainly on Underhill Road & 190th Street (west of the Blue Bay Diner)

  2. PS 213 Carl Ullman School (usually when it rains the days preceeding a meetup date)

  3. Hempstead Ballfield located on the Cross Island Parkway South Exit 26-B (opposite Belmont Racetrack)

PS: The emergency back up field is Cunningham Park Field #17 (off Clearview Parkway 76th)

After lengthy discussion among the organizers of OGS, we will be instituting a "NO Playing Minor Policy" as of 2012.

For sake of liability and safety, we don't want "young children" under the age of 17 to participate in our softball games because of the risk of injury.

I trust that you understand this difficult decision and hope you will abide.
