A multi-million dollar renovation project is underway at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. So far the developer, Bruce Ratner, has refused to enter into a community benefits agreement to compensate Uniondale for imposing extra burdens upon us as the host community (e.g., environmental, traffic, parking, noise).
Bruce Ratner is now looking to obtain foreign investment in exchange for green cards for investors and their families to assist with the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Redevelopment. To do so, he must get the approval of the Nassau County Legislature. We need to send a message loud and clear to the Nassau County Legislature that there should be no amendment to the existing lease without Bruce Ratner entering into a community benefits agreement as part of the amended lease.
We need YOU and your neighbors to join us at a MASSIVE rally in front of the Nassau County Legislature at 1550 Franklin Avenue in Mineola on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11:00am.
We recommend that you park in the Lord & Taylor parking lot on 1200 Franklin Avenue and walk over to the legislative building. Only through our unity and strength in numbers can we get the Nassau County Legislature to represent its constituents and not a developer with deep pockets.
Help us to plan for the rally at this Saturday's G. U. A. A. C. meeting from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Little Theater of Uniondale High School. Please note that a previously discussed press conference this Thursday at the Nassau Coliseum Box Office WILL NOT TAKE PLACE due to the unavailability of previously committed speakers with high public profiles. These speakers will be present on Monday, April 13, 2015.
Let Monday be the day when Uniondale rises up to demand economic justice and corporate responsibility!
We need YOU to join us in standing up for our community by coming to a rally tomorrow at 11:00am in front of the Nassau County Legislature Building at 1550 Franklin Avenue in Mineola.
The purpose of the rally is to ensure that the developer of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum provides well-deserved and much-needed benefits to Uniondale as the host community; benefits such as beautification, a small business incubator, STEM internships for our youth, an expanded community center and affordable housing. Only by coming out in large numbers and speaking with one voice, we can make the developer do the right thing by our children, our families and our community. If you are driving to the rally, please park in the nearby parking lot near Lord & Taylor located at 1200 Franklin Avenue in Garden City. Courtesy of the Uniondale Fire Department, a complimentary shuttle service is available to the rally tomorrow starting at 10:00am. The shuttle will leave from the parking lot across the street from the Uniondale Public Library and return everyone back to the Uniondale Public Library after the rally.
Please forward this email to everyone you know who lives in Uniondale or nearby.
