Sura 17 Aya 11 : In Person Meetup

We will discuss Aya 11 from Sura 17. Please join us in person.

Sura 17 Aya 11 (Think Carefully About What You Wish For)

People ask for things that are bad as if they were asking for something good, for people are prone to be hasty.

This aya can also be translated as: People pray for things that are bad as if they were praying for something good, for people are prone to be hasty.

It is a truism to say that people are motivated in everything they do by the desire to gain pleasure and avoid pain. This aya speaks of our tendency to ask for things without thinking of the consequences in the long term. Most of the unhappiness in people’s lives is because of the desire for quick gratification, and the failure to think and plan ahead. How can we learn to avoid this common shortcoming will be discussed in our meeting.
