as salamu 'alaykum brothers and sisters,

Coffee and Converts is one of MECA (Muslim Establishing Communities in America) groups that has been conducting very interesting and informative presentations related to Islam. I would like to invite you all to their next meetup.

Coffee and Converts is pleased to welcome back, by popular demand, Dr. Mariam Saada.
Our speaker is a specialist in Aljamiado, the language of Al Andalus, the region of Spain ruled by Muslims from 711 until 1492 C.E. Known as the "Pearl Necklace" of the Muslim world, Al Andalus as a society is a brilliant example of a cultural, political, and spiritual efflorescence that enriched Muslims, Christian, and Jews.

With the fall of Al Andalus at the hands of the Catholic king and queen, the Muslims of Spain were stripped of their human rights, forced to convert to Christianity, and subsequently tortured, murdered and expelled from their homeland of almost eight centuries. Yet, there are those who remained in Spain, clandestinely practicing their Islamic faith, against all odds.

How did they do it? How did our Muslim brothers and sisters maintain their faith and their hope for a better future under such circumstances?

Please join us for a talk and discussion on how their example can provide inspiration and guidance for us today.

This event begins with a potluck meal. Please bring a salad, entree, or dessert to share.

Please RSVP to evite with # of children.

Child care will be provided.

Many kind thanks,

Rasheed & Alicia
