July - Seamless R and C++: An Example-Driven Introduction Dirk Eddelbuettel

Details

We look forward to seeing you at our July meeting with Dirk Eddelbuettel.

Talk Outline: Rcpp has become the most popular language extension for R and is currently being used by 120 CRAN packages. It offers seamless integration between R and C++ permitting the user to exchange rich R objects directly with little added effort. We will provide the motivation for Rcpp, and show via a number of examples how it can be used to speed up existing R code by orders of magnitude, or extend R with new facilities by connection to other libraries. Examples may come from the Rcpp Gallery (http://gallery.rcpp.org (http://gallery.rcpp.org/)), or other recent presentations ( http://dirk.eddelbuettel.com/presentations.html )

About our speaker: Dirk Eddelbuettel has been a contributor to CRAN for over a decade and maintains around twenty packages. He is the Debian/Ubuntu maintainer for R and other quantitative software, edits the CRAN Task Views for Finance and High-Performance Computing, is a co-founder of the annual R/Finance conference, and an editor of the Journal of Statistical Software. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematical Economics from EHESS (Paris), and works in Chicago as a Senior Quantitative Analyst.

Detais of Dirk's upcoming book on the same topic can be found here:

Meet from 5:45pm for a 6pm talk.
