For our Fall Kick-Off event, we are honored to host author and professor Hadley Wickham, who will give a brief introduction to his graphics package, ggplot2.

ggplot2 is a plotting system for R, based on the grammar of graphics, which tries to take the good parts of base and lattice graphics and none of the bad parts. It takes care of many of the fiddly details that make plotting a hassle (like drawing legends) as well as providing a powerful model of graphics that makes it easy to produce complex multi-layered graphics. DIRECTIONS

Taking BART
Evans is about a 15-20 minute uphill walk from the downtown Berkeley Bart station. If walking isn't an option the easiest is probably to get a taxi from the stand on Center St. If the driver doesn't know where Evans Hall is ask for the East Gate of campus - this will get you to the "Mining Circle" a road around a pond, Evans is the tallest building and on the West side of the pond.

Parking
University lots are open to the public after 5pm for an hourly fee.
The closest to Evans is the Upper Hearst Structure off Hearst Ave (see map above). If you want free street parking there are often spots along Hearst otherwise explore the streets north of Hearst.

First meetup and I am still searching links and thinking of new ideas from what i saw there. Hadley said he'd get the presentation for the web page. Is that on here somewhere?

Thanks to Hadley, Michael, & Jim for a great presentation!! Michael, I just wanted to gently remind to post the presentation... I'm really excited to get a hold of that data set & play around with ggplot2 (which I just installed). Thanks! Mike
