Details

Hi R users:

We (Bay Area Visualization meetup Group (https://www.meetup.com/VisualizeMyData/)) will have a meetup on the topic of Interactive Graphics in R given by Professor Hadley Wickham (http://had.co.nz/) from Rice University. We would like to invite everyone in the R user group to join in the meetup together and meet friends who are interested in data visualization. If you are interested in, please make sure to sign up (https://www.meetup.com/VisualizeMyData/events/18868881/) here for us to get a precise head count. Food and drink will be provided.

Hadley developed ggplot2 (http://had.co.nz/ggplot2/), one of the most popular graphics packages of R. Here is the detail description about the coming talk from him.

Title: What's next for interactive graphics in R?

In this talk, I'll discuss the past, present and future of interactive graphics, with a focus on our work developing a next generation graphics canvas for R. Our initial experiments are very promising - with the right C primitives, it's possible to write fast interactive and dynamic graphics using pure R code. I'll talk about the three new R packages that make this possible (qtbase, qtpaint and plumbr), and discuss the new cranvas package, where we are rewriting the interactive and dynamic graphics tool GGobi with pure R code.

I'll also show off some custom visualisations of the general social survey and migration patterns within the US.

This is joint work with Di Cook, Heike Hofmann, Michael Lawrence, and the Iowa State data visualisation group.

Look forward to meeting everybody there;

Zhou
