Web-based dashboards are a hot topic in the business intelligence community. R has powerful tools for data analysis and graphics display, but has, to date, been principally confined to the desktop.
In this presentation, John Oram and Mike Driscoll show how to build a dynamic web applications driven by R. Graphics and data analysis are generated on the fly by an R process embedded with Apache, the popular web server software.
Along the way, we will discuss several popular R packages, including Deepayan Sarkar's Lattice (an R implementation of William Cleveland's Trellis for S), Ross Ihaka's Colorspace (for manipulating color palettes beyond RGB), and Jeffrey Horner's RMySQL (for connecting R to MySQL databases) and his Rapache (for embedding R inside Apache).
One of the case-study applications we will highlight is currently viewable at MLB PitchFX Viewer.
