Book Launch - Last of the Wild Rivers: Dumoine River watershed (Wally Shaber)

Details

Join CPAWS Ottawa Valley, the RA Canoe and Camping Club and special guest, river guide, author and former owner of Trailhead, Wally Shaber for a journey down the last of our wild rivers – the Dumoine.

Wally will not only share stories and images collected from over 50 years of guiding on the Dumoine river, but will also take us on a journey back in time to when this river served as a highway for First Nations, fur traders and explorers. A river that later saw its banks hum with activity as the forest industry expanded into the watershed. While the river and a major part of its watershed are protected today, the Dumoine has a storied history that Wally so poignantly describes in his new book, The Last of the Wild Rivers.

When: Wednesday, January 20, 2015

Time: 7:00 PM

Where: Clark Hall, RA Centre in Ottawa (2451 Riverside Drive, near Billings Bridge Shopping Centre)

Cost: Admission is free, but small donations welcome

Copies of The Last of the Wild Rivers will available for purchase and signing before and after the talk. Partial proceeds from the sale of the books will support the ongoing CPAWS Ottawa Valley campaign to fully protect the Dumoine and its sister rivers, the Noire and the Coulonge. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the last wild river in southern Quebec, the CPAWS campaign to protect it and how you can get involved.

Can’t make it? But would like a signed copy of the book? A limited number of copies will be available for purchase at our office at 190 Bronson Avenue for $30.00 each with proceeds benefiting CPAWS.
