Classic D&D Marathon

Details
You and D&D. Live. Die. Try Again. *
Come join self-proclaimed "Old Guy" Michael "ChicagoWiz" as he hosts the second annual Chicagoland Classic D&D Marathon. This year it will be at Unique Gifts & Games on Saturday March 5th. This all day event (11 to 9) is geared towards fans and new people interested in playing D&D the way many of us played it back in the late 1970s/early 1980s - when dice were cheap and crayoned in, when characters sheets only took one side of the paper and the play was awesomely fast, furious and FUN!
So how does this marathon work? You come in, you wait for a slot at the table, where 7 to 8 people are playing. When someone dies or wants to give up their seat, or they've been there an hour, you take their place. You have pre-gen characters in front of you. You begin the adventure, you go out and do your stuff and make some noise. If you level up, tada! You're 2nd level. Here's your sign. If you die as a first level, let someone else take your place. If you die as a 2nd+ level, take your sheet with you, I put out a new shiny first level in your place. If you hit the hour mark and nobody wants to take your place, carry on!
Last year, we had a total of 17 different players play 25 different PCs. The game lasted 11 hours. The longest playing character lasted 7 1/2 hours before dying. The shortest was 15 minutes. It was pure awesomeness and even though I shot my voice for 3 days after and it took me about 2 days to physically recover from 11 straight hours of constant DM'ing, it was so much fun.
This year, brave adventurers be venturing out into the junglelands and plumbing the depths of the classic module X1 - the Isle of Dread. (and in my usual fashion, I'll be making changes there, and here, and there, and all over the place.)
So... come on up to Grayslake, pull up a chair and see how long you can survive in the D&D Marathon!
