MongoDB Primer

I am Jason Ford, a Principal Engineer at Snagajob. I've been working with databases for the last 10 years, and particularly enjoy exploring database technologies in a post RDBMS-only world. For the past two years, I've run the Richmond MongoDB User Group, and love spreading word about how mongoDB can make all of our lives - developers, DBAs, ops - better.

MongoDB is a leader in the noSQL world. I'll be covering the whats hows and whys of this horizontally scalable, document-oriented database, along with the changing database landscape. Learn the ins and outs of building a mongoDB cluster, the mongoDB query language, and how it makes developers lives a whole lot easier. If you can't imagine loving a database without joins, T-SQL, schemas, or transactions, prepare to have your mind blown.

I learned a lot about something I knew nothing about. Four stars.

Had lots of fun presenting, what an awesome group! Tons of great questions, hope to see lots of people experimenting with mongoDB in the near future.

For those interested, here's the slide deck from my presentation: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-7xp-WxuW3Dr0x62gagwx1zvANPeM2clgE1Lf4S9CLI/edit?usp=sharing

If you'd like to hear more, please come out to one of the meetings of the Richmond MongoDB User Group! We meet every other month, usually the first Tuesday. Our next meeting is Nov.4, and it's our second anniversary. We're reaching out to lots of community groups and hopefully will get a good turnout. We'll have dinner provided, along with lots of hands-on stuff. Hope you see you there! http://www.meetup.com/Richmond-MongoDB-User-Group/events/176463592/

Thanks again so much for the invite!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
