I am forming a group of people who are perhaps "not ready for prime time" walking, but want support and friendship while hopefully gradually increasing the length and speed of our walks. Living right next to the American River Parkway and being close to so many lovely places to explore on foot means that there should be no excuse for not getting out there and putting a mile or more on the pedometer several times per week. Other walking groups exist around here and, I must admit, I am intimidated by the speed and duration that is planned for their walks. I need to start down a notch or three, and imagine that there may be a few other folks out there in the same situation. I have some health issues that keep me on the slow side and am working to improve my health. Well behaved dogs with Canine Good Citizen certification and current vaccines would be welcome..... same goes for children. : )
We welcome everyone, including quiet, well-behaved dogs with nice leash manners; the skills that are promoted in Canine Good Citizen (CGC) classes. The goal is to have a "stress-free" stroll and enjoy the area and get a little exercise. This is not a dog training group. If you have any concerns or questions, please e-mail me. We also have to think about safety for everyone, dogs included. If you are interested in dog training walks, there are many opportunities out there, including an excellent Meetup group: Kay's Dog Training and Socialization Group!
My goal is to increase the number of scheduled walks so that everyone can find a walk that fits their needs. If you don't see a walk that suits you, you are welcome to contact me and we can schedule a walk of your choice and announce it to the group. The more options, the merrier.
Please arrive at our meeting point at least 5 minutes beforehand so that we can start our walks on time. We don't want to leave anyone behind, but we also don't want to waste people's time either.
Your RSVP and attendance on our walks is considered a release of liability for the organizer/s and Meetup.
