Introduction

Hi! I moved here to Melbourne in late-November 2013 from Fremantle, WA. I have always been a fan of flash-mobbing, cultural creatives and randomness that make the world a more interesting and friendly place.

What inspires you about acts of kindness?

I love knowing that someone, somewhere, is smiling or having a better day because of something I've done. I know that there have been people that have inspired me with their place-making and general openess to humanity at large, and I would like to emulate that in some small way. The randomness of this is what makes it so worthwhile. People can become complacent about acts of kindess and favours from their friends and family, but complete strangers? And unrequested, just out-of-the-blue? That's something to get cheerful about. And everyone can use a bit of cheer in their day.

Do you have any suggestions for random acts of kindness to perform?

Loads. But I want to hear from others. :) I like the idea of walking into a cafe and buying up ten extra coffees between everyone in a group (called suspended coffees, check out the movement here: http://www.suspendedcoffee.com.au/) and then watching the next ten customers get their coffee free. This one would cost some money though (about $4 each), so I am a big fan of free options. What about standing on a street corner and handing out flyers, expect that instead of selling something, each one says 'You look AMAZING today!' or some similar affirming message? What about we have a cooking afternoon and everyone takes a batch of cookies to work/school/community group for their peers the next day? Really it could be anything; as long as it's fun, cheap/free, life-affirming and random.

We will try and make most of our random acts cost nothing, although some may require people putting in up to $5 or so (ie: buying suspended coffees at a local cafe). Is this okay with you?

I think that if the idea is good enough we can do some that require a little outlay. I want this to be inclusive though, so whenever free is possible, free it will be.
