This year Denver Children's Home is celebrating 135 years of restoring hope and health to traumatized kids and their families in the Denver community.
Located on Albion Street and Colfax Avenue, Denver Children's Home (DCH) is part of the Colfax business district community. On Saturday, April 16, 2010, DCH is hosting the 2nd Cool-Fax & Kids Connect community service/fundraiser - we'll help make Colfax Avenue a little cleaner for our Denver neighbors and friends.
Bring your friends and family and join DCH kids, staff, and supporters as we clean up 64 blocks of Colfax Avenue from Monaco to Lincoln.
Here's an overview of the day's schedule:
8:30-9:30am Volunteer check in
9:30-11:30am We're cleaning up Colfax
11:30am-12:30pm Post-event celebration and luncheon
*Children under the supervision of an adult are encouraged to participate. A signed waiver of liability will be required prior to the start of the event.*
INFORMATION UPDATE - Friday, April 15:
Please be aware there is another event scheduled for Saturday morning with East High School as the meeting point. Therefore, you may experience some traffic congestion in and around the school. If the East High School parking lot is filled, you'll have to park on the street. Another option is to park in the Tattered Cover parking deck across the street. The other event should be over by 11:30am and your return to the high school and parking for the post-event celebration should be uneventful.
If you did not pre-register on the DCH site, you're still welcome to attend. However, due to a very high response (much higher than the volunteer committee expected or planned), a t-shirt is not guaranteed at this point.
As of 6am, the weather forecast is looking SPECTACULAR!
East High School drumline will be performing at the post-event lunch - be sure to stick around for the fun. Oh, and bring tissues (a former DCH student is scheduled to speak), bring loose change or an extra dollar or two as DCH will be accepting donations at the event, and let's get a little dirty while we clean Colfax! And hunt me down - I'll be roaming the street and party with my camera.
- All volunteers will receive a Cool-Fax & Kids Connect t-shirt.
- Einstein's Bagels and Starbucks Coffee will be available during the pre-event registration.
- There will be a drawing for a 30 minute helicopter tour of Denver for 3 courtesy of Colorado HeliOps. Enjoy the post-event lunch with foods from Garbanzo's, Popeye's, Chipotle, Lovely Confections Bakery, and more.
VOLUNTEERS: to expedite the registration process on Saturday morning and ensure you receive a t-shirt, volunteers need to pre-register on the Denver Children's Home website.
There is no cost to participate in this event. However, if you would like to make a donation, Denver Children's Home will graciously accept your financial contribution. You will also have an opportunity donate at the post-event lunch.
Denver Children's Home was recently awarded a challenge grant from Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. If DCH is able to raise $2,500 through sidewalk sponsorships and individual donations, the Gay and Lesbian Fund will match with an additional donation of $2,500. Even if you're unable to participate on the day of the event, please consider making a donation and help DCH reach their goal. You can donate here: https://secure.acceptiva.com/?cst=a3230e
Remember, if you sign up, SHOW UP. No "no shows" please.
