I was raised in very loving and close family by my peerless parents, who are Christians. Church and faith were huge parts of my childhood and I was baptised at age 6. Each year we attended the annual Bible Week, which was, in retrospect, a kind of cult event not unlike the infamous Jesus Camp. The stories I could tell... In my mid teens I could see that something was wrong, but was told (and really believed) that the problem was with myself. Good friends from outside the church group gave another perspective, though, and the more I read and explored, the more I could see the flaws and frailties in the worldview I had been raised with. Now, after a long journey, I consider myself a sceptic (with a 'k' when necessary) and atheist.
I have a degree in genetics and early on in my peripatetic career path I worked in a lab. I am passionate about science and especially biology and evolution. I gave one presentation on this topic and plan to do another in 2012. I am also a huge fan of horror films. I would love to try a topic that connects horror and scepticism. A couple of ideas are bubbling away, so we'll see what happens there.
No. This is my first.
I work at a university. I plan to study and get more qualifications for more opportunities and money. At some point I would like to make a film. Let me know if you want to be involved. I have a few ideas...
Tottenham Hotspur, horror films, wine, my dog. Any meetups that include all or some of these things would be great.
To meet other atheists, share ideas and have a good chat.
