I've updated this Meetup. For more details, see the full listing:
When: Sunday, January 29,[masked]:00 PM
Where: Hoops Hall
1806 Allen Ave
St. Louis, MO 63104
We'll watch some video of Alain De Botton discussing "Atheism 2.0", which is not as new an idea as he likes to suggest. And I was surprised at my reaction to Mr. De Botton - I was so annoyed I wanted to slap him!!! He is so senselessly positive about religion, and he prattles on about how we in the freethought movement should imitate churches - as if churches actually ARE good sources of moral guidance, as if nobody in the Freethought movement has thought about the importance of ritual or community! Yet, this guy has gotten a publisher to publish his book and he was invited to speak at the TED conference. We'll debate what he has to say, and see where we all stand on the issue of the future of the freethought movement. How much community do you want? How much ritual? How much self transcendance? How much charity do you want to engage in? How much do you want a community leader telling you how to live? Let's talk about freethought and what you want out of it.
This Meetup repeats on the 4th Sunday of every month.
