February 12, 2009 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin. Considered by many to be one of the most important scientists in the history of the world, his work is often misunderstood and misused.

In honor of this anniversary year, I would like to propose reading the three principal books on which his reputation rests: The Voyage of the Beagle, The Origin of Species and the Descent of Man.

Meeting times and place to be decided once I know how many people are interested.

“I'd love to read (and reread portions of Darwin's works). Perhaps after those are finished it might be worthwhile and others might like to read newer works like those of R Dawkins, SJ Gould, and JM Smith.”
