My favorite author is W. Somerset Maugham and my favorite novel is his "The Razor's Edge." My favorite non-fiction book is "The Art of Loving" (nor a sex manual), by Erich Fromm. Other favorites include: W. Somerset Maugham (The Moon and Sixpence, Cakes and Ale, Of Human Bondage), John P. Marquand (Point of No Return, H.M. Pulham Esq., Melville Goodwin USA), Mika Waltari (The Egyptian), Marcel Proust (Remembrance of Things Past), Erich Maria Remarque (Arch of Triumph), John Hersey (The Wall), Homer Smith (Man and His Gods). I am particularly interested in books about philosophy, religion (I'm an agnostic), psychology, sociology.
Since I'm retired, almost any time is convenient for me. Since I don't have a car, meetups have to be in Philadelphia.
I have always been a voracious reader. And being able to discuss the books I've read makes the experience even more enriching. I am a retired writer and a literacy tutor, including English as a second language. To me, illiteracy is like blindness.
