Meetup at Flurry in San Francisco

Details

Soups Ranjan is a Data Scientist at Flurry and works on all aspects of
machine learning problems at Flurry, from coming up with machine
learning models to implementing them. Soups has a PhD in ECE from Rice
University and a Bachelors in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur,
India. He has published over 25 journal and conference papers and
co-authored 14 patents awarded by USPTO. He's also developed an
Expense Reporting Android app, called Gingerly.

Soups will present broadly about "Data Science at Flurry", and provide
insights in to how Flurry applies machine learning to a variety of problems, including ad optimization, Real-Time Bidding (RTB) bidding strategy and recommender systems.

Fangjin Yang, Software Engineer, Metamarkets will present on Druid. Druid is open source infrastructure for Real-time Exploratory Analytics on Large datasets. The system uses an always-on, distributed, shared-nothing, architecture designed for real-time querying and data ingestion. It leverages column-orientation and advanced indexing structures to allow for cost effective, arbitrary exploration of multi-billion-row tables with sub-second latencies.

Fangjin is one of the first developers to Metamarkets and the Druid project. He works on all levels and aspects of Druid development, as well as providing support for the community. Fangjin holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering and a MASc in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
