Casual Pool Tournament at Riley's

Details

Our first pool tournament was a success and so we've decided to repeat this on a monthly basis.

Me (Nik) and Malcolm have devised a tournament based on 8-16 players. At first, everyone will play each other once (or twice depending on time). We'll limit the time spent on this so that we have time for the actual tournament, the first games of which will be decided based on your ranking (percentage of games won) after the initial games. At our first tournament we had 7 people and had time to play everyone else (6 games each).

The tournament itself will be a knockout style, with winners from each match going on to play each other until the final. The losers will play lower division games, so it won't be a case of losing a game, then not being able to play.

Once we finish the tournament there might be time for casual games of pool too.

We will book 4-8 (depending on RSVPs) American Pool tables at Riley's, for 3 hours each. The tables cost £10 for 3 hours. This works out at £5 per person. For this cost, you'll get 3 hours of pool, cue hire, and a free year's membership to Riley's. This price is a discount for groups - usually the tables cost £9 per hour so you're saving money and it's a great opportunity to try out the game in a casual setting with a load of friendly people! The venue is open 24/7, has a bar with pints costing around £3.25 for Becks, and does basic food too (burgers, nachos & pizza). Please try to bring a £5 note/change or pay on your card, to simplify payment.

We keep track of people's attendance records. If someone says they're attending, then doesn't show and doesn't let us know, meetup tracks them as a "no show". If more than 16 people want to attend, priority will be given to more reliable members. Usually this wouldn't be a problem, but at events where we have to book in advance it does help if we have a good idea of how many people to expect!
