Been looking for a way to have fun, get fit and make new friends? Learn to square dance. Mark your calendars for our September dance party. See how much fun it is to dance with friendly people in a casual, smoke-free, alcohol-free setting. Exercise your mind as well as your body as you learn the different calls that get the squares moving in geometric patterns on the dance floor. Young adults to the "young at heart." No dance experience necessary. If you can walk you can square dance.
Anything that keeps you active will keep you healthier and feeling younger. In most cases if you can walk, you can square dance. The Red Ribbon Squares offers square dance classes on Tuesday evenings from September through June. Our next class session starts with a free COMMUNITY DANCE on Saturday, September 15, followed by a free CLASS on Tuesday, September 18. With all its moving, twisting, and turning, square dancing provides more than the daily dose of heart- and bone-healthy physical activity. Experts say that remembering all the calls -- from "do-si-do" to 'alemand' -- keeps the mind sharp, potentially staving off age-related memory loss. The companionship that regular square dancing offers is an antidote to depression and loneliness.
