We are women starting a worldwide grassroots movement who are choosing to hold a free (held by donation) gathering for women once a month in honor of womanhood, the mentoring of young women and the place where all ages of women of varied beliefs can meet together in these challenging times. I am the founder and visionary of this movement and we are in 19 states and four countries now. We began this in 2007. It was originally inspired from Anita Diamant's novel, The Red Tent. However it is open to women even past their bleeding age.

With other women I open my home once a month near the new moon in my circular yurt where I cook soup and create a beautiful Red Tent Temple for you to enter. Women nap, draw, journal, knit, share stories, poetry, even songs and dances in this sacred space created for women of many different belief systems. We honor our cycles as women and the many stories that are common to us even with our diversity. We are aunts, sisters, daughters, mothers, grandmothers who have lifetimes of wisdom to share with one another. We support one another with healing, , talking, and sharing information that might be important to our lives. Sometimes voluntary bodywork or energy work is offered. There is often soup and tea available.
Because of the connections we make, we see each other at the market, events, and in schools to find that we have made closer ties with the women of our own local areas. This creates change as we become women who know one another and are there for one another. We are also there for young women as people who know them and are there for them over time. Teens love the Red Tent for this reason.
Each time we gather we also hold a circle for women to speak if they choose.
Because I work with women's empowerment I also have events that are my work in the world that I will share with you here too.
To start one in your area you can go to www.alisastarkweather.com and join our movement.
You can also RSVP at any of our Red Tent Temples or even come to mine here in Baldwinville, Ma. Free teleconferences are held each month too for new women and for women who are organizing them around the world. You can check the website for one near you. Or start one up!

Together we can make cultural change simply by giving us a place in society where the women can gather monthly. At first it is a little awkward because the Red Tent Temple is an exploration of what me might do if we stop doing! This is not typical in our lives. We go, go, go, and give, give, give. You also may not know anyone there and you see them in a quiet place together. But soon women get the importance of us coming together in that quiet stopping place. To even dedicate a time once a month to join together in this effort. It is deeply nourishing once we make the change and give ourselves a time to simply be. Join us!
