Why the "Reinvent Work" Book Club?
The world of work is changing, constantly: really significant changes seem to roll-out practically overnight, and we're somehow supposed to be able to roll with it, process all of these new ideas/technologies, recalibrate, and keep up... it can feel relentless, overwhelming and exhausting. Is anybody actually able to make conscious, well-thought-out decisions about what this rate of change actually means - to us, to our co-workers/employers, to the company, to our families?
Frankly, many of us are doing everything we can just to keep our heads above water at work - glad to have a job at all - and although we get that this level of effort is not sustainable, we don't quite know how to make 'work' actually work better. Or we've believed that we have little say/influence in our actual workplaces/jobs to make a genuine difference.
It's time to take our work back into our own hands, and create work environments that Really Work - for us, for our co-workers/employers, for our families, and for the company itself: Win-Win-Win-Win!
There are EXCELLENT BOOKS to read and discuss from cutting edge authors who have effective, culture-changing, real-time suggestions for changing the world of work from the INSIDE - not just from the senior leadership down, but from anyone at any level of management/leadership in any business, large or small.
Authors/books we'll be discussing:
- Marcus Buckingham (Go Put Your Strengths To Work, The One Thing You Need To Know, et al)
- Stephen Covey (First Things First, Principle-Centered Leadership, 7 Habits, et al)
- Stephen MR Covey (The Speed of Trust)
- Thos. Friedman (The World Is Flat 2.0)
- "Leader As Coach: Strategies for Coaching and Developing Others" (Peterson/Hicks)
The potential list will expand according to the interests/suggestions of committed book club members.
This book club is perfect for leaders and managers of all levels who desire to Reinvent their workplaces, by creating and sustaining positive, strengths-based, win-win work relationships and teams - thus creating the kind of workplace where people truly enjoy the work they get to do, the contribution they get to make, and the people they get to work with.
Sound 'unrealistic' or 'undoable'? Simple answer: don't join this group, it's probably not for you. This group is for positive change agents and thought leaders who are willing to make substantial changes at work - those who have a vision for how 'work' can work so much better. If that's you - you've found us! Now come MeetUp with us, and discuss all sorts of ideas that will help you create the workplace where you've always wanted to work!!!
