"Freethinking Residents of Reno" is now "Reno Freethinkers"!

Hi there Freethinkers!

As you may have noticed, the name of the group has changed to "Reno Freethinkers". Thank you to everyone involved in discussing the topic and voting in the poll.

The name change was initiated through a desire to better clarify the group's purpose and position it for promotion and growth. With the term "Freethinkers", we align ourselves with the historical likes of Paine, Jefferson, Russell, Feynman, Sagan, and countless others. Other similar groups that use the term include the Freedom from Religion Foundation and The Freethinker publication from the UK.

With this name change comes the opportunity to create a more widely accessible identity for the group, so remember that it can only become as supportive and active as the members make it. Stay involved, start discussions, come to our monthly Meetups (and other events, to be better defined as we continue to grow), suggest activity and Meetup ideas, submit discussion topics, participate on our message board, listen for local news to discuss, and invite others to join.

Soon, I'll be setting up an external site from Meetup with news, Facebook, and Twitter accounts to help increase awareness of our group and the topics we value. Meetup will still remain our primary method of organization.

I'll be sending out a follow up message within the next few days with the details of our external site, Facebook fan page, and Twitter account, as well as finalizing the details of our March Meetup. If you'd like to contribute to the content of any of these, please don't hesitate to share.

Thanks again, and have a great weekend!
Ben
