Resumes that Advocate for YOU

Your resume is your introduction. It represents your smile, your confident posture, the engaging way you look someone in the eye and convey your success—online and in print.  Your resume needs to make a stunning first impression that compels your reader to want to know more. Bring your resume for critiquing and suggestions by a professional resume writer and attendees at this workshop. The informal workshop focuses on the issues of participants and is intended to help attendees gain confidence in taking next steps. The leader has written more than a thousand custom resumes across industries, job functions and experience levels.  Learn more about resumes by clicking on the leader's this website.

We will discuss alternatives for organizing your sections, ways to highlight your most important strengths, techniques to showcase your capabilities, and more. Handouts cover tactics to present gaps in employment, transition to new job categories, and sort through the dilemmas of resume writing, such as one page/two page resumes, what to include or delete, dates, and many other issues.

Ready—fire—aim? No! Three reasons to aim for a specific job target: (1) You do not have time to shotgun, that is, cover “maybe” bases. (2) Your competitors who have aimed will be a closer match to the job opportunity. (3) Knowing your target, which is bounded by industry, function and experience level, allows you to take useful action in six ways: (1) Searching 10 to 20 job postings in your target category informs you about current needs. (2) Highlighting the key responsibilities and requirements reveals the points employers are emphasizing. (3) Your highlighting also serves as an excellent checklist. You may identify important points to add to your resume. (4) Among your highlighted items, will be the important key words. Substitute these terms to more closely match the job posting. (5) You will now be a tighter fit to the job requirement. (6) Additionally, you will have refreshed yourself on the language used in your targeted the job category. You’ll sound like an “insider.”
