About the Instructor:

James Shortridge has traveled all over the world looking for that emotion. Born in England, having traveled all over the world, from Turkey to the Philippines to Japan to the USA. Having lived in the North, South, East and West. Northern California, always being home base, and as the songs lyrics cry out, "I look to the West and my spirit is crying".

Then an amazing thing happened. I found Rhode Island. I looked around and said, wow, this tiny place is filled with amazing sites and sounds. The Oceans as they hug the coast near the mansions of Newport, or the lazy river walk in the middle of Downtown Providence, with touches of the past, and the promise of tomorrow. The real hub of New England, Providence, within an arms reach, Boston, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut. Each with their own Passions, and Emotions, Beauty,
It's here where I decided to hang one of my hats, in the smallest state, Rhode Island.

I picked up a toy camera, and followed around my freelance photographer Grandfather. He taught me to see the beauty is the simplest of things. I was living in Turkey when I traded a VW Bug for a Canon AE-1 and started my own journey. I have been in and out of love, with photography, but she's always been there for me. Today, I still seek that simple beauty, this in the eyes of those who can bring forth a sensuality, a pain in the emotions, a sensitivity, a passion so deep, that when someone looks into the photo's frame, they forget about me, and only seek to find, where all that "Passion in Beauty" comes from.
There is a quiet power in knowing, for that split second of time, you've created a history. A mental intimacy with the model, who's courage to share her inter-most self with the world, and to the viewer, who only cares enough to stop for that moment and is touched. This is where I find the "Passion in Beauty". Having shot models from around the world, Kim from American's Next Top Model season 10 to over a 100's in this local area, it is, only one shot, that could changes a persons life. I keep looking, even if my life has already been changed.

Throw out your thumb, Hitch a ride; the journey starts with one foot in front of the other.
